Segera Retreat is a splash of green in a golden savannah. With a legacy of true Kenyan ranch life set against the filmic grasslands that landscape the foothills of Mount Kenya, Segera has been rejuvenated into a fertile home for conservation, community, culture and commerce. Behind a living cactus boma, the lush gardens flicker with sunbirds and inspire with sculptures, pools and elegant thatched villas.

Segera emits creative energy and the kind of hospitality you find with favourite friends. It is a beacon for interesting minds, mavericks, art lovers and those looking for fantastic wildlife experiences, wellness, incredible dining experiences and new ways to engage with Kenya’s evolving culture. Segera’s exclusively private 50 000 acres are home to lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and buffalo as well as endangered species such as reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Lelwel’s Hartebeest and African wild dog. You’ll seek out these species along with classic plains game and up to 150 bird species on daily game drives in open-sided safari vehicles with talented guides.

The Garden Villas

Segera’s five garden villas are set in landscaped botanical gardens centred around a vast swimming pool and surrounded by a cactus wall. This cactus boma creates a safe haven so you can stroll around freely night and day. One villa is an adjoining family villa and the other four are spacious one-bedroomed spaces with sleep-out beds beneath them and day beds for sunning in the garden.

Each thatched villa sits high on stilts peering out across the savannahs and woodlands to the waterholes and salt licks that magnetise wildlife. With outdoor baths, ensuite bathrooms and private decks, the elegant interiors are inspired by the bleached grass palette and earthy tones of the land.

The Farmhouse

Once the original ranch house, this 3-bedroomed, 3 bathroomed house has a generous master suite and two lovely double rooms that open onto a large outdoor lounge and private pool that rolls onward toward the open views of Mount Kenya. There is also an adorable single bedroom that is perfect for an au pair or teenager. The secluded, fire-lit lounge with two open plan dining areas and a farmhouse kitchen make this house perfect for families or those looking for privacy.

The Garden House

Right in the heart of the Segera garden and surrounded by climbing bougainvillea tendrils, cactus and verdant growth, Garden House has a secluded, romantic feel.

Huge windows and glassed doors allow the garden views to spill into the house. The main bedroom’s Juliette balcony opens into the foliage and the refreshing saltwater pool is just a short stroll away. This two-bedroomed, double-storey house also has a beautiful kitchen, double volume lounge and an incredible outdoor stone bath. You’ll also find a double day bed that can be set up for beautiful sleep-outs in the warm Kenyan air.

Greenhouse

The Greenhouse refracts with light through multiple glass windows and flickers with reflections from the surrounding gardens. Potted tropical plants and succulents enhance the feeling of the outdoors coming indoors. Soft flower-printed linens, layered bedding and green shades create a botanically inspired two bedroomed house with a double volume shared dining table and lounge. Both bedrooms have elegant en-suite bathrooms and dappled views out towards the wild foothills beneath Mount Kenya. In the morning the whole house is flooded with copper-coloured light as the sun rises over this wild, untamed landscape.

Villa Segera

Villa Segera’s two master suites are in two separate buildings that are linked by a suspended walkway. Sitting high for beautiful views across the Sugeroi river toward Mount Kenya, the two bedrooms share a private pool, an elegant open-sided dining area and a lounge that is dappled with blooms. Outside, under a vine strewn pergola, a long table makes for lovely days lunching at the pool with views that roll for miles.

You can also sleep-out under billowing mosquito nets and wake to the sun rising over the mountain.Or simply enjoy the changing safari from your verandah.

Segera House

Be welcomed by decorative Zanzabari doors that lead into a huge entrance hall that links three large en-suite master suites together with a double-volume shared lounge. Spilling out to a sun-kissed private pool and outdoor dining area, this generous, double-storey house has grand gestures throughout.

You’ll find pops of brilliant blues, artworks, rugged textures, an elegant kitchen and daily views of giraffe strolling through the landscape. This house is perfect for friends travelling together or multi-generational family holidays.

The Segera Spa And Gym

Segera’s spa, gym and C4C building share a beautiful courtyard. You’ll find tranquil sculptures, a sculptural water body and blossoming flowers licking at the edges of the thatched buildings.
