Nestled in a fever tree forest and backed by a rocky hill, Kisima Ngeda is a cozy camp that overlooks the salt-water seasonal Lake Eyasi. Eight palm-roofed, fully equipped tented chalets await guests who can lose themselves in the expansive views of the Alipi escarpment. The changing tones of the day provide a natural tonic for sundowners on tent decks and wholesome food is prepared and served up by local chefs in the palm-thatched communal bar, lounge and dining room. At day’s end, a Tanganyika boiler is fired up with palm fronds for your shower before you retire and fall asleep to a lullaby of Nightjars and the sounds of the forest. Kisima Ngeda lies in the ancestral lands of the Hazda hunter-gatherers and Datoga people, who graciously share their art, lifestyle, cuisine, and culture with visitors.

The Lodge

The main area has wooden floors and palm-thatched roofs. It consists of a cozy bar & lounge area with cushioned, bench-seated nooks for you to relax before dinner. Wholesome meals are served in the adjacent dining room where there is an expansive view of the lake.

The cuisine combines organic and seasonal produce from the best local producers with only essentials imported. All meals are freshly prepared, including bread and ice cream. The chefs hail from the surrounding community and undergo training regularly to keep their high standards and inspire new menus.

The Kisima Ngeda pool is hidden in the forest under the rocky ridge that dominates the camp. With ample recliner chairs and parasols on the wooden deck, it is a favorite spot for families to escape the heat.

Tents/Rooms

The eight palm-thatched tented chalets with a furnished veranda on wooden decks blend into the forest. Each bedroom features a king-sized bed and a comfy armchair. Behind the living area is the en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower and a separate toilet. Staff heat water for bathing through a traditional Tanganyika boiler that burns palm fronds. The chalet decor pays tribute to the indigenous people in brass coil lampshades and handcrafted metal-framed mirrors.
